Katherine Scahill , 17, is a high honors student at Hamden High School and currently studies violin with Wendy Sharp. Katherine has been a member of the Greater New Haven Youth Orchestra (GNHYO) and Greater New Haven Chamber Orchestra (GNHCO) since 2003. In the 2006-2007 season she is Assistant Concertmaster of GNHYO and GNHCO. In 2004-2005, she was a member of the Premier String Quartet at Neighborhood Music School (NMS) and also participated in another quartet on viola. This year and last, she has continued her chamber music studies in the Renoir Quartet coached by Miriam Eckelhoefer and Elizabeth Adams. |
As a member of the Certificate Program at NMS, Katherine studies music theory and attends workshops and juries. She is the 2005 winner of the NMS Performance Prize. This month Katherine was a winner of the Thirty-Eighth Annual Concerto Competition for Young Musicians sponsored by the Hamden Symphony Orchestra. Katherine attended Interlochen Arts Camp during the summers of 2003 and 2004. In 2005 and 2006 she attended California Summer Music in Carmel, California. Katherine plans to major in music in college.
